Sangsoo Lee is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at NYU Shanghai. He studies family, gender, and inequality using quantitative methods. Much of his work adopts a cross-national comparative perspective, with a regional focus on Korea and other East Asian countries. Currently, he is pursuing three lines of work. The first project focuses on gender dynamics in marriage and family, with a particular emphasis on the implications of couples’ relative socioeconomic status on their individual and marital outcomes. The second line of research investigates issues related to marital formation, dissolution, and repartnering. The third research line examines how children’s life chances and experiences are gendered and stratified across families and societies. His work has been published in Social Science & Medicine, Demographic Research, Population Research and Policy Review, and Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion.
