Liming’s research focuses on how social policies contribute to diverging life chances and outcomes of inequality. Her topics of interest include education, work and employment, ageing, mental health, family and child development. Liming was trained in Sociology. Her research is interdisciplinary and primarily quantitative.

Liming currently works on the British Academy funded project on ‘Higher education expansion policy and women’s empowerment’. Previously, Liming also worked on the ESRC-funded program on ‘Work, welfare reform and mental health’ in the UK and the EU-funded project ‘MINDMAP: promoting mental wellbeing in the ageing urban population: determinants, policies and interventions in European cities’.
