Professor Wu Xiaogang has recently received a Major Program Grant, supported by the MOE Project of Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Science in Universities through the Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies, Sun Yat-sen University. The project will study the population structure and mobility patterns in the Greater Bay Area in the Pearl River Delta. 

The research team will adopt an interdisciplinary perspective and analyze the population census and mini-census (by-census) data across borders to investigate the human resources/population issues in relation to the industrial upgrading, public service and social assimilation in the region. “The project is built upon our research team’s existing strength and we hope that our research can contribute to relevant policies on further socioeconomic development in the region,” said  Professor Wu. Professor Wu has previously received a Key Program Grant supported by NOPSS, and also support from the National Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies and the Institute of Hong Kong and Macau Studies under the State Council, respectively, to study social inequality, youth issues and identity in Hong Kong.
