On March 28, 2023, the world leading academic publishing company Elsevier released the 2022 “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” list, featuring 5,216 scholars with high global impact from 504 universities, enterprises, and research institutions in mainland China, covering 10 research fields. This list uses the world’s authoritative abstract and citation database, Scopus, as source of data and analytics. This is the 9th year that the list has been released since 2015 and it has received a high level of attention from media and academic community at home and abroad. Professor Wu Xiaogang, Director of Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER) and Yufeng Global Professor of Social Science at NYU Shanghai, has been selected into the list of highly cited scholars in Sociology, together with two other NYU faculty members respectively in Business Administration and Biology.
Professor Wu is a leading scholar in research on Chinese inequality and social stratification. He has published more than 70 articles in leading sociological journals such as Annual Review of Sociology, American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, Social Forces, Demography, Social Science Research, as well as journals in interdisciplinary and China studies. Currently, he serves as the Chief Editor the Chinese Sociological Review and a new Chinese journal《城市与社会学刊》 (Journal of Cities and Society), Associate Co-editor of Sociology Compass and is member of International Advisory board of many journals in sociology, including Social Forces and Research in Social Stratification and Mobility. In 2022, Professor Wu was elected to membership in the prestigious Sociological Research Association (SRA), the honor society to recognize leading researchers in the discipline.
