Associate Professor of Practice in Sociology, NYU Shanghai

Dr. Wang Hongbo is currently an Associate Professor of Practice in Sociology at NYU Shanghai. Before joining NYU Shanghai, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Chicago and worked as Research Assistant Professor and Lecturer at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Hongbo received his PhD in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2008.

Hongbo’s primary teaching specialties include social statistics and data science. He has taught relevant courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels for more than a decade. His teaching interests also lie in substantive areas, such as education, migration, and health. As a trained demographer and sociologist, Hongbo’s broad research interests lie in quantitative studies of social inequality and application of big data analysis in social science.
